President’s Message

Thanks to everyone who attended the Kentlake PTSA general membership meeting on January 11^th.  This meeting is one of my favorites during the year, as it is the one at which we present our awards for Outstanding Educator, Outstanding Advocate and Golden Acorn.  A huge thank you to the awards committee for the time spent meeting to determine the recipients.

This year we received several recommendations from parents, staff and students for each of the awards, which made it a very difficult decision for the awards committee.  It is very clear that Kentlake is blessed with many outstanding educators and several excellent volunteers!  However, there were a few people who had several recommendations, so based on this the committee was able to come to a decision.

The PTSA award recipients for the 2009-2010 school year are as follows:

            Outstanding Educator – Matt Sturtevant

            Outstanding Advocate – Jim Tanasse

            Golden Acorn – Lynn Oliphant

Each recipient received a certificate and a pin from Washington State PTA and an appreciation gift from KL PTSA.  Plaques are being updated for display in the Kentlake office with their names listed on them.  They will also be honored guests at the Kent Area Council PTA Founders Day dinner in April.  In addition, a donation in their name was given to Washington State PTA for the Washington State PTA Scholarship Fund.
